× RADIO.XES
Music that connects. Some ideas never really leave you. radio.XES is one of them.
What began many years ago as an independent online radio station came to life through a dedicated team of presenters and a loyal community of listeners. Gothic, darkwave, EBM, industrial, alternative and metal provided the soundtrack. But it was the people who made it special: shared broadcasts, conversations in the chat and the joy of discovering music together.
Those memories include DJ THOR , BRITTA – the angel from Wuppertal – and Asmodeus , along with many other voices behind the microphone. Connections with the Dunkles Leben community and encounters at festivals made radio.XES more than a radio stream.
Now a new chapter begins. radio.XES is back at musik.mol.ruhr , with music from our own collection, shuffled tracks, smooth transitions and a listener chat for conversations while you listen. An automated music programme accompanies the relaunch. The door remains open for shared broadcasts and familiar voices.
A new chapter. A familiar feeling. Switch on radio.XES and let the music take over.
× Privacy Our server processes technical connection data such as your IP address, request time, requested address and browser information. Starting playback connects your browser to our own streaming server. Connection data is needed to deliver the programme; access logs depend on the server configuration.
Track information is requested from our own server on opening and every five seconds while this page is visible. During background playback, the regular polling interval is 30 seconds. During playback, requests continue in the background or with the screen locked, where permitted by the browser. Track information and playback state are passed through your browser’s media functionality to the device’s media display, such as its lock screen. Only track information, the number of active stream connections and stream availability are returned publicly, never listener IP addresses or credentials.
This player uses no analytics or advertising services, loads no external fonts and sets no cookies outside the optional chat. Volume is held only for the open player.
The controller for musik.mol.ruhr and mol.ruhr is mol.ruhr GbR, named in the legal notice. The radio service radio.XES is operated as a distinct, noncommercial music and hobby project. Its purpose is to share music and provide a space for conversation; it is not directed towards commercial advantage or monetary compensation. Contact nachricht@mol.ruhr for privacy questions and rights requests. General privacy information is available on mol.ruhr under “Datenschutz”.
Track information, Creative Commons licenses and credits The music used is subject to its respective license terms. Creative Commons licenses with the “NC” element restrict use to noncommercial purposes. The specific use is decisive; the fact that both websites have the same operator does not determine this on its own. Describing our radio as noncommercial does not replace checking the rights for individual tracks.
While the page is visible, the timing display requests information from our own server every five seconds; the license and credits display is polled once per second. These requests process the connection data required for delivery, including your IP address, request time and requested address.
Where metadata is available, our music credits show performers, track titles, creators, Creative Commons (CC) licenses and additional release notes. This information comes from locally stored music and release metadata, for example from the afmusic collection at the Internet Archive, and is served by our own server. It provides information about the music being played and attribution under the applicable license terms.
The “Credits and notes” popup displays this information within our website. Opening it does not establish a connection to Creative Commons or the Internet Archive. The license and credits displays do not set additional cookies.
External license links CC license labels link to the relevant license pages on creativecommons.org. Your browser contacts that external website only when you follow a link. Its operator then receives your IP address and the browser and connection data required to deliver the page. Further processing is governed by that provider’s privacy information. License links generated by our player are opened without sending a referrer address.
When you open the chat, a necessary session cookie is set. Your nickname and messages are public and removed on the next chat request after 24 hours (a maximum of 100 messages is retained). The server uses a keyed hash of your IP address to limit posting frequency; these rate-limit entries expire after ten minutes of inactivity. Messages are refreshed every four seconds while the page is visible and the chat is open. Server access logs are separate from chat storage.
You can choose Gothic or Metal in the player. Track information, stream connection counts, timing and credits are requested for the selected stream. This selection is kept only for the open page. Metal credits use locally stored release metadata from various CC artists and netlabels at the Internet Archive. The respective source is shown in the credits.
Reserved nicknames are stored with a one-way password hash until the reservation is deleted. Plain-text passwords are not stored. A session cookie authenticates the nickname; the public “Registered” badge identifies a password-protected nickname, not a verified person. Login attempts are limited using a keyed IP-address hash and nickname counters; these entries expire after 15 minutes and are removed on the next chat request. A password change invalidates existing logins for that nickname.
